Student Notices - April 11, 2022

  

  • Congratulations to all the Boyd athletes that ran in the Steveston Icebreaker 8km yesterday. You were amazing! Last Sun Run training practice is this Saturday at 9:30 from Steveston Starbucks.

 

  • Attention Grade 8 students who love Math! If you are interested in participating in the Gauss Mathematics Contest, please see Mrs. Zhuravlev in room 229 or tell your math teacher ASAP. The contest day is on Wednesday, May 18th. The application deadline is on Monday, April 25th. This contest designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem-solving ability.

 

  • Attention students: Due to the amount of garbage and unsafe activity in the gyms during lunch, we are closing the gym this week.  The weather is beautiful so you can go outside or sit in the cafeteria area with friends.  But effective Monday, April 11th, both gyms will no longer be accessible at lunchtime.  Thank you!

 

  • A reminder that GLOW club is taking a yearbook photo tomorrow at lunch in the art room. All club members encouraged to attend!  Also, see Ms. Moss for details about the upcoming Pride Rainbow Cafe this Thursday April 14th hosted by McMath, and the Beau Wheeler performance and workshop here at Boyd on April 22nd.

 

  • Hey, Trojans! Some exciting announcements from the Hugh Boyd Yearbook team. Firstly, a reminder to all students to fill out the yearbook surveys. To complete the surveys, follow the Hugh Boyd Yearbook Instagram account and click on the link in the bio. The deadline to complete these surveys is April 14th.

Secondly, a reminder to all Grade 12s to submit their grad quotes. The deadline to submit your quotes is April 19th. Thirdly, the results of the “Most Likely To” surveys are in. If you are in grade 8, 9, or 10, the results of your surveys have been posted outside room 132 and room 223. If you’re one of the winners, meet in front of the library at lunch tomorrow, Wednesday, or Thursday and the Yearbook team will take your photo. Finally, do you have a passion for retro fashion? If so, then the Yearbook team wants to take your photo! So come to school wearing your best retro outfit and pose for some photos. Photos will be taken tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday at lunch in front of the library. See you there!

 

  • Do you want to learn how to fold origami? We have all the supplies you need to learn! Join student council and the Japanese international students on Wednesday at lunch to learn! (The location is to be determined, it may be in Mr. Ma’s or in the library)

 

  • Hey Trojans, are you ready for Easter long weekend? Well student council has planned an egg hunt for you! Wear your grade war colours and meet us outside of west Richmond during lunch to begin the hunt. The grade with the most found chocolate eggs wins them all plus a grade war point. See you this Thursday at lunch!

 

  • Come down to the lounge today at lunch as Mr. Taylor’s Social Justice class will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to support Ukrainian Families displaced by the current war. Each doughnut is $2.50 and all profits will be going to help these most suffering.

 

  • Attention all grade 11&12’s. Tickets for a Night in Paris Formal Dance are on sale starting today! Come visit us this week in the lounge at lunch to buy your tickets. Tickets are $5 and are needed for entry into the dance. The dance will be on Friday April 22 from 6:30-9:30pm. We hope to see you there!

 

  • Students:  Do you have a library book that is past the due date?  Please renew or return it to the library ASAP so other students get a chance to take them out!  We don’t have late fines, so there is no excuse not to get them in! Or you will just get the dreaded Ms Leung-is-disappointed-with-you-visit, and honestly, no one wants that. Drop off your books in the bin outside the library-easy peasy. 

 

  • April Poetry Month: Have you always wanted to channel your inner Shakespeare, Amanda Gorman, Shane Koyczan, or Beyonce?  Well now, here is your chance!  Bring out the rapper, songwriter, and poet in yourself during National Poetry Month!  Enter into the Richmond Public Library Teen Poetry Contest and submit your written word or spoken word form to teenblog@yourlibrary.ca to win gift certificates to Richmond Centre. Visit hughboydlibrary.ca or check out the flyers around the school for more info. As well, you can take part in lots of poetry activities in the library. Make your own haiku, limerick, or other poetic forms and get a chocolate treat. Take a poem and read it for your friends, or make your own masterpiece by stacking titles of books on top of each other to make a book spine poem.  Everyone and everyone can participate and have fun.  All contests run until the end of April!

  • Badminton club is Tuesday after school in the new gym. No badminton club on Friday! See you Tuesday.
