Student Notices - Oct 27, 2022

  • Attention all grade 12 students!  You will be writing the GLA 12 next Tuesday, November 1. There will be a morning and afternoon session.   An email has been sent to you all indicating what time and where you will be writing the assessment and is posted on the board outside the office.  Please ensure you bring a pen, pencil, piece of ID (Go card is okay), and know your Teams username and password if you will be writing in the CAD Lab.  If you have any questions or concerns come and see Ms. Mahli in the office.

  • Attention Yearbook students. A friendly reminder that you are meeting at lunch today in Mr. Smythe’s room. See you there!

  • HEY TROJANS! SENIOR NIGHT is TODAY! Come out and support your senior boys soccer after school today in the new gym, senior girls volleyball at 5:30 and senior boys at 7:30! Bring your TROJAN SPIRIT! Bring things to make noise! Pots and pans are encouraged but remember to be respectful when attending! We’ll be giving roses and introducing our seniors before the game so be there EARLY! We need a big crowd tonight! GO TROJANS!

This is a heads up that there will be a tryout for the Senior Boys Basketball Team on Friday at 3:00pm in the new gym. A date for tryouts for our other basketball teams have not been determined yet. Please listen to the announcements or watch your emails for further details.

  • Hey, Trojans. Did you spend your entire summer break regretting NOT buying a Yearbook? Do you shed a single tear whenever you see the Yearbook sized hole in your bookshelf and/or feel the Yearbook sized hole in your heart?  Well, you’re in luck because we have some extra copies of last year’s Yearbook for sale! If you would like to purchase a copy of last year’s Yearbook, please speak to Mr. Smythe in room 132. Copies are $30 each and supplies are limited, so don’t delay!

  • Today is the Gr. 12’s post-secondary BC Fair where many people from post-secondary institutions will be presenting. Pizza and drinks for grads at 3:15 pm.

  • Attention Grade 9 students, Wednesday November 2 will be the “Take your Kids to Work” Day!  If you wish to participate, you have to return the permission form to the office or have your parents email to boyd@sd38.bc.ca by tomorrow.

  • Halloween is just around the corner, and we wanted to remind students of our personal and social responsibilities:   Halloween can be fun.  However, we need to be aware that celebrating Halloween needs to be fun for ALL and not at the expense of equity seeking groups.  In doing so, it is important to keep in mind that we need to be sensitive to groups that have been marginalized through mimicry and cultural appropriation during Halloween and other ‘dress up’ events.  A few things to keep in mind:

It’s good to keep in mind that the following are NOT Costumes: RACE (black face/brown face),

CULTURE (Indigenous regalia/dreadlocks), RELIGIOUS FAITH (religion /gods/saints/gurus/hijab)

GENDER (gender switching for humour or to mock), TRAUMA (hangman’s noose/weapons)

  • Messages from the administrators: It has come to our attention that there have been items stolen at school over the past few weeks.  This is extremely disappointing and there are several students and families that are upset that belongings are being taken.  Students are reminded to keep valuable items at home, and to report any suspicious activities.  We all have a personal and social responsibility to ourselves, each other and the school community.  Please let us know if you have any questions.
