Year-End celebrations and next year welcoming events

  1. Hugh Boyd enjoyed a very successful 2022-23 school year and many of the culminating activities toward the end of June celebrated the successes of our students.  Our school goals include helping students feel more engaged and connected to our school community and there is evidence that we have been successful in bringing our students together when we look back on the year that was and celebrate all the fantastic things that were accomplished. Among the year-end activities were:
    1. Fine Arts Night (Wednesday, May 17)
    2. Commencement ceremony (Saturday, June 3 at UBC Chan Center)
    3. Drama Production of Radium Girls (June 6-13)
    4. Year-End Music Concert (June 15)
    5. Awards Assemblies and Year-End Carnival (June 23)
    6. Dinner/Dance and Dry After Grad (June 25-26)

We congratulated our Graduating class with an inspiring and prideful event on June 3rd. They also got to enjoy a fantastic celebration at Tsawwassen Spring Golf Course and an After Grad party thrown by parents back at the school.

Our students also showcased their talents and a wide variety of ways (including Arts, Drama and Music with the Fine Arts Night and Spring Production of the Radium Girls). The performances were truly exceptional.

Then we closed the year with Awards assemblies for our Grade 8-11 students (our Grade 12s got their awards during Commencement). After school on June 23, Student Council hosted a Carnival with fun games for our students to play and create memories that will last them though the summer and beyond.

Our students need to be commended for all they have overcome in their high school years, and how much they have inspired us with their kindness, caring and hard work.

Have a great summer, good luck in your future, and we look forward to seeing many of you again in September.

In an effort to bring connection and engagement to our newest Hugh Boyd students, we have some Grade 8 welcoming activities for 2023-24

To help our newest students transition into high school, Hugh Boyd has set up several activities to learn more about the students, and for them to get to know the school and each other, the Graduating class of 2028.

Already in 2023 we have had transition breakfast for the teachers of our Grade 7 students, transition meetings to learn more about the students and any needs they may have, a Grade 7 basketball tournament (March 14-16) and a Grade 7 Orientation Day full of fun getting to know you activities and a pizza lunch (May 25).

In the fall, we will have a Grade Assembly on September 5, followed by weekly activity days where we teach Grade 8 students how to be successful in high school. Topics on these activity days will include:

  1. How to stay organized (using your agenda and calendar)
  2. Appropriate Cell phone use
  3. Mindfulness, Growth mindset and Stress management
  4. Tech tips-how to use MyEdBC and Teams
  5. Goal setting
  6. And some fun activities including:
    1. Grade 12 students sharing tricks for success
    2. Clubs information
    3. Letters to self (to be returned in Grade 12)
    4. Bowling and Team building games
    5. And overnight at the school (September 29)

We hope these activities help our Grade 8 students feel even more connected to the Hugh Boyd community and promote a real sense of belonging and engagement for our newest students. It's going to be a great year!!!
