Truth and Reconciliation at Boyd

As all of Canada continues to grapple with recent discoveries around Residential School sites, our school community feels the need to educate our students about what has happened in Canada's history and how to move forward.  There is a need to learn about the past, so we can know better and do better in the future.  Education, listening, and learning is part of our mandate.

During the last week of school (June 21-25), our Librarian, a Resource teacher and several staff who are members of the Anti-Racism study group put together some library displays and information packages, as well as lessons for staff to use with their classes.  The staff organized a healing circle and walk-in one morning as well as school-wide activity where classes watched videos about the Residential School system, then had some time to reflect upon what they learned about Canada's history and create a commitment statement that students wrote on orange paper t-shirts and attached to the windows at the entrance to our school.

We recognize that there is much to learn so we can help create a more connected and equitable education system in Canada.  These activities over the last weeks of school are just the start and will continue in the 2021-22 school year.
