- February 20th to the 26th is Freedom to Read Week. Freedom to Read Week encourages Canadians to reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom that is guaranteed in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. With the movement in certain countries to ban and censor books from libraries and classes due to issues that anyone views as controversial, it is more important than ever to be free to read what you want. The upstairs and downstairs bulletins near the student bathrooms have displays of books that have been challenged and/or censored, and QR codes linking to articles about the importance of intellectual freedom and attempts to limit it. Go to FreedomtoRead.ca or follow the library’s Instagram for more info.
