Student Notices - Oct 26, 2022

  • Good Luck to the Boyd Cross Country team today as they head to zones to run against some very fast teams. We are hoping to qualify all runners for Provincials. Go Trojans!

  • Attention all grade 12 students!  You will be writing the GLA 12 next Tuesday, November 1. There will be a morning and afternoon session.   An email has been sent to you all indicating what time and where you will be writing the assessment and is posted on the board outside the office.  Please ensure you bring a pen, pencil, piece of ID (Go card is okay), and know your Teams username and password if you will be writing in the CAD Lab.  If you have any questions or concerns come and see Ms. Mahli in the office.

  • Hey, Trojans. Did you spend your entire summer break regretting NOT buying a Yearbook? Do you shed a single tear whenever you see the Yearbook sized hole in your bookshelf and/or feel the Yearbook sized hole in your heart?  Well, you’re in luck because we have some extra copies of last year’s Yearbook for sale! If you would like to purchase a copy of last year’s Yearbook, please speak to Mr. Smythe in room 132. Copies are $30 each and supplies are limited, so don’t delay!

  • Lego Club is at lunch today in the MakerSpace room. Everyone is welcome!

  • This is a reminder to all students that today is Photo Retake Day. Students will be called down by their last name during Block C today and should remain in class until they are called. Photo retakes are ONLY to those who didn’t get a photo taken on the original day and those who have something wrong with their original picture (eyes closed, glare, bad position). Not for those who want to wear a better fit to look fire for their school photo. Staff and students who missed photo day, as well as new students, get to have their photos taken first. Students who require a retake must bring their ID card to the camera. The photographer needs to scan the QR code on it.

  • Tomorrow is the Gr. 12’s post-secondary BC Fair where many people from post-secondary institutions will be presenting. Pizza and drinks for grads at 3:15 pm.

  • Attention Grade 9 students, Wednesday November 2 will be the “Take your Kids to Work” Day!  If you wish to participate, your parents have to fill out the permission form and return it to the office. The permission form has to be returned to the office or have your parents email to boyd@sd38.bc.ca by this Friday. Please note that Wednesday Nov 2 is a regular school day so if you decide not to participate, you must attend school on that collaboration day with a start time at 9:55 am.

  • Halloween is just around the corner, and we wanted to remind students of our personal and social responsibilities:   Halloween can be fun.  However, we need to be aware that celebrating Halloween needs to be fun for ALL and not at the expense of equity seeking groups.  In doing so, it is important to keep in mind that we need to be sensitive to groups that have been marginalized through mimicry and cultural appropriation during Halloween and other ‘dress up’ events.  A few things to keep in mind:

It’s good to keep in mind that the following are NOT Costumes: RACE (black face/brown face),

CULTURE (Indigenous regalia/dreadlocks), RELIGIOUS FAITH (religion /gods/saints/gurus/hijab)

GENDER (gender switching for humour or to mock), TRAUMA (hangman’s noose/weapons)

  • Messages from the administrators: It has come to our attention that there have been items stolen at school over the past few weeks.  This is extremely disappointing and there are several students and families that are upset that belongings are being taken.  Students are reminded to keep valuable items at home, and to report any suspicious activities.  We all have a personal and social responsibility to ourselves, each other and the school community.  Please let us know if you have any questions.
